When is it Time for a New Mattress?

vegaTrui / March 19th, 2019

You spend about one-third of your life sleeping.  Even though you spend a considerable amount of time in bed, you might not notice that it’s time for a new mattress.  While the materials of a mattress can last 20 years or more, the comfort level decreases with every year that goes by.  This means that you may need a new mattress after as little as six years, even if the mattress still looks to be in good shape.

How your mattress wears is highly dependent on you.  Someone who weighs 200 to 300 pounds or more will wear out a mattress at a faster rate than a 100 pound person.  A mattress that is slept on every night will lose comfort far quicker than the mattress in the guest room that is only used a couple of times a year.

Signs That It’s Time For A New Mattress

  • Waking up sore – Could be that your mattress is no longer offering the same level of support that it was when it was new.
  • Waking up in the night because you are uncomfortable or are not getting a good night’s sleep, it’s likely that your mattress is worn.
  • Preference changes with age – you may find that your mattress is now too soft or too firm for your liking.

The bottom line

If your bed is no longer comfortable, it’s time for a new mattress!  A $600 mattress used for five years costs only $0.33 a night!
